Thibaut Courtois and Marcelo set to miss Real Madrid’s games against Eibar and Man City

Influential Real Madrid pair Thibaut Courtois and Marcelo have both suffered muscular injuries and will miss the crunch ties with Eibar and Manchester City.

The news will come as a blow to Zinedine Zidane, whose side are still reeling from the defeat by Real Betis which has put them behind Barcelona in the LaLiga table.

Courtois and Marcelo both started the match in Seville, but have suffered injuries to their left thigh and hamstring respectively.

Courtois managed to play the full 90 minutes, while Marcelo was replaced by Ferland Mendy with half an hour to play.

Real will now go into two huge matches without two of their regular players, with a victory over Eibar imperative if they are to keep pace with league leaders Barcelona.

After that, a trip to Manchester City beckons, where the Spaniards will attempt to overturn a first-leg 2-1 deficit in the Champions League last 16.

Courtois has been in much-improved form for Los Blancos of late, performing well despite a tricky start to life at the Bernabeu.

He will likely be replaced in goal by Alphonse Areola, on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.
