Study: San Antonio among worst cities in the country to live alone

San Antonio is not a great place to live alone, according to a study from Joybird.

On Monday, the furniture company released its list of The Best Cities to Live Alone in the U.S. and included a list of the worst cities. San Antonio was No. 12 among 20 metropolitans you don’t wont to live alone in.

To determine the ranking, Joybird focused its study on affordability, safety and the ability to meet new people. The online company ranked cities that are in the top 46 metro areas in the county and complied data from the U.S. Census, FBI, Yelp and the MIT Living Wage Calculator.

The study narrowed the data to the following seven factors: average rent for a one-bedroom or studio; the percentage of housing stock with fewer than two bedrooms; the percentage of single adults; the living wage for one adult with no children; violent and property crime rate per 100,000 inhabitants; the number of bars, bookstores and gyms per 100 inhabitants and the percentage of adults who volunteer.

In the highest-ranked cities to live alone category, Milwaukee took the top spot, Cleveland was second and St. Louis claimed the third spot. As for Texas cities, Austin was listed as the sixth-best city while Houston was ranked No. 20.

San Francisco was listed as the worst U.S. city to live alone, according to the study. At No. 18, Dallas joins San Antonio as the only Texas cities on the list of worst places to live alone.
