Shootings, fights and stabbings among incidents SAPD responded to this past weekend

From a stabbing on the River Walk to a fatal drunk driving incident, the San Antonio Police Department had a busy weekend.

While there was only one fatal incident, several people were sent to the hospital, including one SAPD officer.

Below are some of the calls SAPD responded to this past weekend.

Saturday:

  • 2 p.m.: Two people were shot near the 200 block of Marmok Avenue, police said. The victims said the shooting had occurred a few blocks away and had driven to Marmok to find a safe place to call 911.  
  • 5 p.m.: An SAPD officer was injured after he was in a physical altercation with a man who was allegedly threatening two men in a food truck, police said. Officers had to tase the man before he was placed into custody. One officer broke his wrist in the process.
  • 11:55 p.m.: A man was hit and killed by a suspected drunk driver near the 5400 block of Wurzbach Road in Leon Valley, police said. Police believe the female driver lost control of her vehicle, jumped the sidewalk and hit the pedestrian before slamming into a tree in the parking lot of Wells Fargo. She was arrested on an intoxicated manslaughter charge.

Sunday:

  • 12:32 a.m.: A woman was stabbed by a random assailant on the River Walk. Her boyfriend fought off the suspect, who eventually fled before police arrived.
  • 3:20 a.m.: A couple was fighting with each other driving while down Loop 410, near TX 151, with their kids in the back seat when the man lost control of his vehicle and went off the embankment on 410. An off-duty police officer saw the accident and attempted to help, but instead the man started to fight with the officer before running off, police said. He was not located, and the woman and children were taken to the hospital.
  • 4 p.m.: Israel Casanova, 50, was arrested in connection with an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly shot a woman in the stomach near the 10000 block of Ruidosa Street before threatening her family members, according to police. He was allegedly under the influence of narcotics, police said. 
  • 9 p.m.: A man was injured after being shot in the buttocks from a stray bullet near the 2400 block of E. Commerce Street. Police said he was in the bathroom in his home when multiple bullets fired outside the residence went through his wall and hit him.
