Open Thread: Spurs assistant coach Ettore Messina advocates for Vasilije Micic

The Serbian point guard has the eye of the Spurs second-in-command.

Esteemed Italian coach Ettore Messina has publicly spoken out advocating for twenty-five year old point guard Vasilije Micic. Micic currently plays in the Turkish Spuer League with Anadolu Efes Spor Kulübü.

“Great game, great season. [He’s an] NBA player. If it were for me, I’d love to see him in San Antonio! We talked a lot about Micic with Gregg Popovich, several times. He’d greatly fit into our team.”

Micic was drafted 52nd in the 2014 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. He’s acquired a variety of accolades since then including a 2016 ABA League and Serbian League Championships as well as a 2018 Lithuanian Basketball Championship.

Here’s come highlights (he is #22):

No word if Messina’s seal of approval will be enough to persuade Pop to make a move on Micic, especially in a guard heavy 2019-2020 Spurs line-up.

But it is interesting to know what’s on Messina’s mind and what he will share with media as it pertains to possible signings as the Spurs head toward free agency.
