Open Thread: San Antonio Spurs to participate in Utah Summer League

A three day tournament to whet your Vegas appetite.

There are no casinos, but they have a heck of a tabernacle choir. It’s also missing that famous strip, but that’s all right because there is only one venue for this event.

The Utah Summer League, which officially kicks off the summer league season, started as the Rocky Mountain Revue in 1984 and ran until 2008 before shutting down. In 2015, the Utah Jazz revived the series updating it as Summer League to complement it’s Vegas counterpart.

The Utah Summer League has since featured the Jazz and three other teams. Each team plays the other one time over 3 game days.

It’s inaugural 2015 tournament featured the San Antonio Spurs, Boston Celtics, and Philadelphia 76ers along with the hometown Jazz. All four teams returned in 2016 and 2017. Last summer Utah hosted the Spurs, Memphis Grizzlies, and Atlanta Hawks.

This year the Grizzlies and Spurs return with the Cleveland Cavaliers making their Utah debut.

Yours truly will be there writing about the games and the players as they unfold. It’s my first time attending “on location,” so let me know if there is anything you want me to report back about from Salt Lake City.

Each of the Spurs games will be aired live on NBA TV, see the times below.
