January 19th at the AT&T Center just took on a greater purpose.

On Sunday, January 19th, the Spurs host the Miami Heat. The first 10,000 fans in attendance will receive a bobblehead in the likeness of Patty Mills. But that’s not what’s got the Australian guard excited about this particular day.

“It’s probably a lot more important and gratifying than it might seem from the outside knowing that your using your platform to be able to acknowledge and recognize indigenous people of the land we play and practice and go to work on. So in a sense, I think it’s far bigger than basketball.”- Patty Mills

Patty and the Spurs have teamed up with Tap Pilam Coahuiltecan Nation to design a limited edition clothing line celebrating the American Indian culture of San Antonio dating back more than 300 years.

The line which includes tee shirts, baseball caps, and sweatshirts will make its debut at the AT&T Center on January 19th which has now been dubbed Indigenous Night in honor of the cultural origins of San Antonio as well as the Torres Strait, Mills’ homeland.

The clothing features Spurs logos embedded in both ancient and contemporary images. Patty’s bobblehead will feature him holding the Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags.
