Open Thread: Anatomy of the Spurs’ start minus Kawhi Leonard

As Kawhi prepares to join the squad, here’s how the team did so well without him.

Michael Lee from Yahoo! Sports posted a wondeful piece about the Spurs. For dedicated PtR readers, much of the information is common knowledge. Mention of Rudy Gay’s strengths being exemplified by The System, Kawhi Leonard’s anticipated return, and Gregg Popovich’s now famous “from ‘poor me’ to ‘screw you’” quote all read like a Spurs Greatest Hits Season 20. That said, embedded were a few gems.

  • Over the last two seasons, the Spurs also have gone 33-12 without Leonard
  • The rest of the non-Spurs universe is being turned on to Grandpa Juice, and
  • The Flanny Gang is REAL. This is not a test, people!

“Whoever is not there is not there. We don’t worry about him or think about it too much. We’ve got to take care of as much of the business as we can,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said.

Pop may be the only man on earth who could say that and be believable.

Comments do not have to be on topic, but I would recommend avoiding asking Mark Barrington about his captain’s beard — just my two cents.
