New lanes on the remodeled U.S. 281 set to open this weekend

Two new lanes on the remodeled U.S. 281 are scheduled to open this weekend, the Texas Department of Transportation announced Thursday. The agency is anticipating a late Saturday evening opening, according to a TxDOT spokesperson.

The flyover lanes will carry drivers over Evans Road, with new ramps allowing access on and off U.S. 281 just north of the intersection.

Following the new main lanes, TxDOT will open the underpass of the intersection to traffic.

Drivers will be able to cross from one side of Evans Road to the other. There will also be turnarounds at the intersection for the U.S. 281 frontage roads in both directions.

The latest opening comes three months after two northbound lanes of U.S. 281, from Loop 1604 to south of Evans Road, were completed in June.

On Friday, TxDOT announced that Bexar County’s first high-occupancy vehicle lanes are set to open on the North Side next week. The lanes will run between Ralph Fair Road and La Cantera Parkway eastbound on Interstate 10.
