One man is dead after a fire caused heavy smoke at a residence on the Northeast Side Monday morning, according to officials.

San Antonio firefighters responded to a call of a fire on the 12800 block of Terrytown just before 7 a.m.

When crews arrived they saw heavy smoke but no flames, said SAFD spokesman Woody Woodward. Firefighters made entry immediately and found a body in a bedroom of the home.

Investigators say the fire started and was contained to the bedroom and did not spread to the rest of the house, according to Woodward. Firefighters were able to put out the fire quickly.

The male victim was the only one at home at the time and Woodward said the smoke detectors were working and making noise when firefighters arrived.

Officials have not yet identified the victim and arson investigators were still working to determine a cause of the fire.
