Lonnie Walker helps donate 300 pairs of shoes to hometown youth league

The Spurs’ draft pick is already using his paychecks for good.

The 18th pick of the 2018 NBA Draft hasn’t been a Spur for long, but Lonnie Walker IV is already making a huge impact back in his hometown of Reading, PA. Teaming up with fellow Reading High School alum and Adidas executive Eric Wise, Walker helped donate 300 pairs of shoes worth around $30,000 to Reading’s Blacktop Basketball League.

Despite beginning his professional career nearly 1,700 miles away from his hometown, he has been and continues to be an inspiration in Reading.

“All the kids are inspired by Lonnie’s story,” said Wynton Butler, a Blacktop board member. “It’s great that they have somebody they have seen, they have touched, and they have felt make it like this.

”Lonnie has been nothing but genuine in being a role model and carrying himself the right way. That’s what he’s done from the beginning. He’s everything we knew he would be, in terms of how he carries himself. He’s been nothing but a perfect role model.”

If Walker’s impact on the court can be half as much as it is in Pennsylvania, he will be yet another steal for a Spurs team that he already seems to be a perfect match with, both on and off the court.
