The study apparently took in 16 different metrics, tracking the opinions of the public every day. These metrics include the public’s perceptions of clubs’ management, players and coaches, fan culture, tradition and their record of success – even the attractiveness of their football.

As well as asking supporters about the club they follow, the poll asked them about the likelihood that they would watch rival side on television.

Chelsea were the next best club in the poll with 3.1 per cent – almost three times less liked than Liverpool and almost double of Manchester United.
