Leicester full-back Ricardo Pereira out for rest of the season after suffering ACL injury

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Ricardo Pereira sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury in the 4-0 win over Aston Villa and will miss the remainder of the season. 

The full-back has been one of the stars of the season for the Foxes but the Portuguese now faces the possibility of not featuring again in 2019-20, including at Euro 2020, following a challenge with Villa’s Jack Grealish. 

‘We’ve got Ricardo Pereira who will be out for the rest of the season,’ Rodgers said on Thursday.

‘He had a challenge and has hurt his ACL. He’s not had an operation. He’s just with the medical team. 

‘It’s a blow for us. It’s an opportunity for someone else. It’s a shame.

‘You’ve just got to see how the player reacts. You’re looking between four to six months. That will be the time we are expecting.’

It was also revealed that creative playmaker James Maddison is out for two weeks with a calm problem. 

‘James Maddison will be out for a few weeks until after the international break,’ Rodgers added.

‘We have one or two other little niggles but they are the main ones that won’t feature this weekend. 

Ricardo has made the right back role his own this season under Rodgers. 

He has played in 33 games for Leicester in all competitions this season, scoring four goals.
