He has a chance to make his first national team appearance alongside Pop.

Spurs big man LaMarcus Aldridge will be participating in Team USA’s training camp this summer with the hopes of making the World Cup team, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Camp will take place August 5-8 as head coach Gregg Popovich will be seeking to put a team together for the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China, which runs from August 21 through September 15. Other players expected to participate (so far) include Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum, James Harden, Eric Gordon, Anthony Davis, Bradley Beal, Kevin Love, Khris Middleton, Brook Lopez, Donovan Mitchell, Jayson Tatum, Kyle Kuzma, and Andre Drummond. There are 18 total spots available at camp.

Aldridge has never actually played for the U.S. national team before. He was a member of the 2008 Select Team that trained and scrimmaged with the U.S. Olympic team, and he was a finalist for the 2016 U.S. Olympic team but did not make the cut.
