LaMarcus Aldridge passes 18,000 career points

He is the 72nd player to reach this milestone.

LaMarcus Aldridge entered last night’s game against the New Orleans Pelicans having scored 17,988 points in his career. As has been the norm this season, Aldridge scored early and often last night, getting the 12 points he needed to reach the 18,000 point milestone in the first quarter. It was fitting he reached this milestone by burying his defender deep inside the paint, leading to an easy basket. He’s known for his lethal mid-range game, but as we’ve come to learn over the past season and a half, Aldridge excels at generating easy buckets by sealing off his defender in a way that leaves them defenseless.

Aldridge becomes the 72nd player in NBA history to reach this milestone, and he’s the only player with 18,000 points and 7,500 rebounds since he was drafted in 2006. Reaching 18,000 points is even more impressive considering he rarely takes shots from beyond the arc.

Coming off a career year last season, Aldridge has blasted past his early season struggles and is now putting together another wonderful season in silver and black. With Aldridge seemingly aging like fine wine, I look forward to seeing him surpass many more milestones as his career progresses.

Please take a moment to congratulate Aldridge on this incredible achievement.
