Kawhi Leonard will not play against the Warriors in Game 3

The Spurs will have to try and make it a series without their MVP once again.

The Spurs have announced that Kawhi Leonard will not play in Game 3 vs. the Golden State Warriors, per Coach Gregg Popovich.

Despite the Warriors’ gut instincts telling them Leonard was going to play, it appears his ankle has not yet healed enough for him to give it a go. There is no word on if he’ll be ready for Game 4 or not.

Jonathon Simmons played well starting in his absence, putting up a team high 22 points while also contributing three rebounds and three assists in Game 2, but he received little help. To stand any chance of stealing Game 3 at home and making at least one of the Conference Finals series somewhat interesting, the Spurs will need more contributions from players like LaMarcus Aldridge and Patty Mills to compete with the Warriors’ high-flying offense.

On the Warriors side, Zaza Pachulia (heel) and Andre Iguodala (knee) are listed as questionable.
