Giannis Antetokounmpo: Knee Injury Not ‘Really, Really Serious’

Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks breathed a huge sigh of relief after an MRI revealed a minor joint capsule sprain in the reigning MVP’s left knee.

Antetokounmpo, 25, was hurt Friday night after taking a hard fall late in a 113-103 road loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Milwaukee has the NBA’s best record at 53-12, but is mired in a season-worst three-game losing streak.

Per ESPN and The AP:

“Yeah. I sh*t my pants,” Antetokounmpo said with a smile after practicing fully with his teammates Wednesday ahead of Milwaukee’s game against the Boston Celtics on Thursday night. “When I was on the floor [during Friday’s game against the Lakers], I was thinking about, ‘This is my knee.’

“But thank God, I got the good training staff that trained me real well and prepared my body for all those types of falls and those types of moments. Thank God it wasn’t something really, really serious. I was happy. The team was happy. My family was happy.”

Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer said the team would remain careful.

“I felt good, but at the end of the day, I’ve got to go, I’ve got to come back tomorrow and see how I feel tomorrow,” Antetokounmpo said. “I might go back home and my knee swells up. I don’t know.”
