An explanation for Davinson Sanchez missing out on a place in Spurs’ matchday squad to take on RB Leipzig has emerged online.
Tottenham return to CL action
Jose Mourinho’s men are currently locked in action with Bundesliga high-flyers Leipzig in Germany, in the 2nd-leg of the Champions League Last-16 tie between the clubs.
Spurs headed into proceedings requiring a positive result, having been utterly outplayed in the tie’s opener 3 weeks ago.
A superb Leipzig performance eventually saw Julian Nagelsmann’s visitors depart north London with a deserved 1-0 win.
The highly sought after Timo Werner bagged the only goal of the clash from the penalty spot shortly before the hour-mark.
Since their defeat to Leipzig, meanwhile, struggling Tottenham have failed to win any of their 4 outings across all competitions, a run which included 3 defeats.
And the hopes of the Lilywhites of getting things back on track tonight were dealt a further blow over the weekend, when a meeting with Burnley saw key attacker Steven Bergwijn pick up an ankle problem, adding the Dutchman to a Spurs injury list already including the likes of Harry Kane, Heung-min Son and Moussa Sissoko.
Sanchez adds to woes
As such, ahead of kick-off this evening, yet another blow on the personnel front was the very last thing that Spurs needed.
But, incredibly, this is precisely what they were dealt.
As is customary, an hour prior to proceedings getting underway, Jose Mourinho’s matchday squad was announced.
The Tottenham 18, though, featured one surprise absentee.
The individual in question was Davinson Sanchez.

And, as has since been confirmed by the likes of the reliable Dan Kilpatrick, Colombian stopper Sanchez was ruled out after picking up a ‘slight knock’:
Davinson Sanchez has a “slight knock” as Spurs’ injuries continue to mount.
But there is a small bit of good news with the starting XI.
