Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones arrested Tuesday on DWI charges in Travis County

Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated early Tuesday morning, according to the Travis County Sheriff’s Office.

Jones was booked into the Travis County Jail at 12:37 a.m. and released on a personal recognizance bond at 4:11 a.m.

His bond was set at $3,000.

Jones runs the far-right, Austin-based website InfoWars. A story on the website Tuesday said Jones admitted to drinking sake at a Japanese restaurant, then blowing less than a 0.08 on a breathalyzer test when he was pulled over for speeding.

Texas law allows police to charge a person with DWI if they are impaired, regardless of their blood alcohol content.

In a New York Times story from December, a former InfoWars staffer recalled Jones drinking vodka from a Dixie cup before driving in 2016.

An Austin judge ordered Jones to pay more than $100,000 in legal fees in December to a Sandy Hook family suing him for his alleged promotion of conspiracy theories about the 2012 massacre in which their son was killed.
