City Have Opened Negotiations To Sign Bundesliga Star As They Target Koulibaly Alternative

Manchester City have turned their attentions towards RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano in their search for a new centre-back, according to reports in the Italian media.

It appears the Citizens have grown frustrated in their attempts to sign Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly, with the club seemingly unwilling to pay the €75m needed to snap up the 29-year-old.

Upamecano would certainly be a younger alternative. The Frenchman is 21 years of age and he has been on the radar of a number of English clubs over the past few months. Manchester United, in particular, have been heavily linked with the defender, while the likes of Arsenal have also scouted him in the past.

It is believed City have entered negotiations to sign the player but whether the talks will reach a successful conclusion, it remains to be seen. The centre-half only signed a contract extension in July, with many anticipating he will stay for another year in Germany before leaving next summer.
