There is nary a person rooting for the Spurs who isn’t excited about this offseason acquisition.
As mentioned, Bryn Forbes stopped off at the Spurs summer camp and after addressing the campers, he spoke with media about the addition of Tim Duncan to the Spurs coaching staff and his initial reaction upon hearing the news.
“It’s crazy. That was the last thing that I was probably expecting . . . my rookie year, if you didn’t play many minutes, you played three-on-three and Timmy would be out there every time. So I’ve already learned a lot from Tim, he’s been a great mentor so far and I’m looking forward to working with him.
Timmy’s a great people person, he’s great to talk to. He understands from a player’s perspective, that’s very important. Me and him talked about a lot of things, and everybody just enjoys his presence. You want guys like that around -him, Manu, Tony– guys like that. They’ve got the blueprint to the game, so why wouldn’t you want them around.
A lot of guys have built a relationship. Guys like me, Dejounte, all the young guys, Derrick, everybody, Lonnie, even though we’ve never played with him, it kid of feels like we did because everybody’s had a play to run through him, all of us. He’s always given us words of encouragement or thoughts or his ideas which has been great so far and I think he’s going to do a great job honestly.”
It appears that Duncan has already made his mark on the team and now the rest of us fans will be privy to what he can do to help shape the youth movement currently taking over one of the most celebrated teams in NBA history.
