No other information on the staff member will be released, the statement said. Everyone who may have been in close contact with the individual has been notified.

“We realize that it is stressful for families to be separated from children, especially in light of the current health concern,” said spokesperson Monica Ramos. “In an effort to support family connections while keeping all children and staff healthy, all visits are currently being conducted by videoconference or extended phone calls only.”

The policy may change “if circumstance warrant a more restrictive approach,” officials said.

The department said officials are monitoring children and staff for signs of illness and increasing cleaning measures.

The individual who tested positive is the first known case of COVID-19 among Bexar County employees.
