Alamo Plaza reopens for first time since June; historic site remains closed

Alamo Plaza has reopened for the first since June, the historical site announced Monday on Twitter. The Alamo, however, will remain closed until further notice.

The City of San Antonio shut down Alamo Plaza on June 1 as a precautionary move to minimize the possibility of civil disturbance and damage to sensitive structures. The area has seen protests after the death of George Floyd, who died while in Minneapolis police custody on May 25.

Since March 16, the Alamo has been closed in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Although state parks have reopened as part of Gov. Gregg Abbott’s “Open Texas” plan, the Alamo has kept its doors temporarily closed.

The Alamo wrote in its tweet that it will update its social media with information on when guests will be allowed to visit the historic site.

Alamo Plaza is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, according to the tweet.
